The Pre-Pharmacy program is designed to meet the admissions requirements for professional pharmacy schools. The program does not offer any pharmacy or pharmacological courses, but tries to provide a foundation in general physics, general chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, and human anatomy and physiology. CSI pharmacy students have a rare opportunity to apply to a doctorate program directly after completing the pre-pharmacy program. This also means that our students are competing with applicants that have baccalaureate, masters, and doctorate degrees. The Pre-Pharmacy program has had a close working relationship with the College of Pharmacy at Idaho State University for many years. The pre-pharmacy program is flexible enough that a student planning to apply to Utah, Oregon, or Washington can fulfill most of their requirements as well. For the past couple years, ISU has had more than 500 applicants for 50-55 positions. ISU invites about 100 students to interview for the final screening. Typically, about two-thirds of our students that apply are asked to interview, after the interviews about 75% of our students are accepted. Our acceptance rates have been above 50% for more than a decade. Reports from ISU College of Pharmacy have been very favorable and they eagerly want to facilitate our students' application process.
One area of confusion that frequently arises is that the title of the program is sometimes referred to as 'Pharmacy'. Prospective students from out of the region call and e-mail with questions regarding how long it takes to become a pharmacist, or 'is it a pharmacy technician program'. We are trying to be more diligent in our language to avoid this miscommunication.
